Public Allies is a social justice organization committed to changing the face and practice of leadership by recruiting and training talented emerging leaders, with a passion for social impact, to create meaningful change in our community. Our Allies are diverse, equity-centered, innovative problem solvers, dedicated to mobilizing community assets to develop solutions to local challenges. In partnership with nonprofit partners, we deliver our nationally recognized, values-driven, results-led apprenticeship to advance our mission to create a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it.

The AmeriCorp program focuses on creating homegrown heroes

When Nikita Anderson first joined Public Allies Cincinnati, she was looking for a job. With four children to support — and unemployed at the time — she was searching for opportunities. Then she met two ‘allies’ serving with the Urban League (an organization that promotes economic empowerment and self-sufficiency through a variety of programming) in her home neighborhood of Avondale. And so, Anderson decided to take the dive herself.

Public Allies: A Career Path to Public Service

Public Allies is a unique professional development program based on the core values of diversity and inclusion, collaboration, continuous learning, integrity, and building on assets. The program that partners with AmeriCorps to give more than 600 diverse individuals nationally an opportunity to be placed at a local nonprofit organization and participate in a full-time, paid apprenticeship for 10 months.
