The Volunteer Manager will be responsible for developing, coordinating and managing volunteer recruitment, screening, and placement in line with the Foundation’s volunteer and public engagement programming at the Obama Presidential Center. This position will create and maintain the program’s structure to include: developing and implementing volunteer training programs, supervising and supporting volunteers, recognizing and rewarding volunteers for their contributions, promoting and marketing volunteer opportunities to the community, and evaluating the volunteer program to recommend improvements.

As the Volunteer Manager, you’ll be reporting directly to the Vice President, Public Engagement.

 

 

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Program Design: Formalize volunteer roles and responsibilities, recruitment strategies, training curriculum, and retention efforts. In partnership with senior leadership and current planning, identify opportunities to integrate volunteers across departments and programs.
  • Volunteer Program Development: Develop, recommend, and implement volunteer program and operation that includes recruitment plans, training materials, and operational procedures.
  • Tracking and Analysis: Set specific program goals and track performance metrics to evaluate success and identify areas of improvement.
  • Volunteer Management: Lead, train, and empower a team of volunteers ensuring smooth day-to-day-operations, in coordination with the Center’s visitor services and programming teams. In addition, serve as the primary liaison between volunteers and Obama Presidential Center staff, facilitating communication and feedback.

 

Key Deliverables / Outcomes

  • Develop a long term volunteer plan that involves building out internal infrastructure needed to support and launch a formal volunteer program.
  • A detailed volunteer program plan, including role descriptions, recruitment strategies, training curriculum, and retention initiatives.
  • Documented standard operational procedures for the volunteer program.
  • A volunteer management plan that includes communication and feedback mechanisms between volunteers and staff, coordinated with other visitor-facing teams.
  • Regular reports on volunteer program performance metrics, including success evaluation and areas for improvement.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 5-8 years experience in volunteer management.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to coordinate volunteer activities effectively.
  • Outstanding communication skills to build relationships with volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle conflicts and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Ability to develop and deliver volunteer training programs in partnership with the Opening Training Sequence.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, supporting changing needs and circumstances within the volunteer program.

 

The salary range for this role is between $87,020 and $108,775.
