Philanthropy Fellow (2-Year Fellowship)

Website Council of Michigan Foundations

Primary Focus Areas: Community & Economic Development, Safe & Just Communities, Built Environment and Arts & Culture

The Philanthropy Fellowship offers an emerging professional a unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions to Michigan philanthropy and the larger philanthropic community. The Fellow will support the Hudson-Webber Foundation (HWF). This opportunity allows you to contribute to Detroit’s vibrant nonprofit sector while gaining exposure to all facets of grantmaking, community engagement, and philanthropy. The Fellow will work closely with HWF’s team members who focus on four strategic areas as part of their mission: Community & Economic Development, Safe & Just Communities, Built Environment and Arts & Culture. This activity will represent 80% of the Fellow’s time.

A shared position with the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF), the Fellow will also gain experience focused on specific bodies of work that benefit Michigan’s broader philanthropic sector.  You will be an integral member of the CMF team, supporting strategic initiatives, developing resources and collaborating with Michigan funders to advance their policy advocacy engagement. This represents 10% of the Fellow’s time.

In addition, the Fellow will benefit from being part of a larger cohort of Fellows from several area foundations, receiving ongoing support from the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) in targeted networking for career development, and learning about the field of philanthropy. This activity will represent 10% of the Fellow’s time.

This is a hybrid position. The Philanthropy Fellow will work on-site at The Hudson Webber Foundation three days per week and will be invited to work from home (or a remote location of their choice) the remainder of the week. There will be select (limited) in-person events the Fellow will be required to attend including policy events in Lansing. For CMF, the Philanthropy Fellow will work virtually but will attend periodic in-person staff gatherings as well as special CMF events, including the Annual Conference. The Fellow will also have regular in-person connections and training opportunities with a larger cohort of emerging fellows from several foundations for which CMF provides support.
