We help our partners increase their capacity to achieve their mission by matching them with diverse, talented individuals from the community. Here is how we’ve helped some of our partners.
Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc. (Legal Aid Society) partnered with Public Allies Central Florida to increase the number of volunteers they had, which would allow them to open more cases serving dependent children and other community members in need of legal counsel.
Legal Aid Society’s Ally, Sierra Ross, helped to recruit, train and retain qualified volunteers to serve abused, abandoned, and neglected children who are subjects of the Orange County Dependency Court assigned through the Guardian ad Litem Program. The Ally was able to increase partnerships and total volunteers who would continue to serve after the Ally left the program. In addition, the Ally was credited with having improved the level and/or quality of services at the organization.
Winter Park Day Nursery partnered with Public Allies in order to create a Volunteer Coordinator role with the goal of allowing Winter Park Day Nursery to serve more children in a more effective and efficient manner.
In addition to overseeing volunteers and service projects, Ally Yulissa Santana, created volunteer programs, created a volunteer database, and designed a volunteer appreciation system. The Ally was praised by her supervisor, who said “With Yulissa on board, we can continue to cultivate more partnerships with organizations within the community so they become more familiar with our organization and the services we provide to the community.”
CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF) partnered with Public Allies in order to understand the unique needs and current gaps in services provided to 16-24 year-olds, and specifically to enhance employment and training services to this population. A report with data, analysis, inventory and recommendations for addressing the gaps in services was to be produced and shared with CSCF leadership for their consideration, which would be used to potentially plan for a new youth center.
CSCF was matched with Ally Laura Mercado, who was able to research best practices and interview participants for feedback related to the targeted program. Laura presented her findings in an executive summary near the end of the year, which was well received, and she was ultimately offered a job within the organization after her service year was completed.
