Ashley Lee’s passion for cultivating community-representative leadership stems from a deep love of the Milwaukee community. Ashley is a native of the Sherman Park community in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has over nine years of experience working to achieve racial and educational equity for young people in Milwaukee and across the country. Ashley currently serves as the Executive Director of Public Allies Milwaukee, an organization dedicated to creating a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. In her role, she provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to a team of two program managers, two program directors and forty-five corps members annually.

Prior to her role with Public Allies Milwaukee, Ashley served as the Special Assistant to the Superintendent for Milwaukee Public Schools where she lead the creation of the district’s Department of Black and Latino Male Achievement. Ashley also worked on Teach For America’s national admissions team where she managed corps member onboarding and matriculation across each of Teach For America’s regions.

Ashley earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Community & Environmental Sociology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During her time at the University of Wisconsin, Ashley was awarded a Meyerhoff Undergraduate Excellence Fellowship for outstanding leadership and academic excellence. She also holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis from Marquette University. In the spring of 2019, Ashley was awarded the Governors Service Award for AmeriCorps Alumni of the Year as well as the University of Wisconsin Nelson Institute’s Rising Alumni Award.
