I use to be nervous to step into a leadership role and now I am more confident in what I can offer.

I used to think I knew exactly how to make the community better, but now I know that the community holds that knowledge, and my role is to help facilitate that knowledge into action.

I used to think that I wasn’t what graduate schools were looking for in a student, but now I am a proud Masters in Public Policy student at the University of Chicago.

I used to be uncertain of my next steps, but now I am more determined because of the many opportunities being an Ally provided for me. Being an Ally gave me the necessary tools to be a asset to the community and to always put my best foot forward.

I used to doubt my ability to make an impact in my community because I didn’t know where to begin, but now I’m reaching thousands of people every year using the power of rhythm and the discipline and follow-through I learned through Public Allies.

I used to think that I didn’t have the power to make a difference, but now I know it only takes one. One step, one person, one group of dedicated individuals.

I used to think it would be impossible to work in the field I wanted to be in due to several life and health challenges, but now I am the Director of Communications for a regional human rights NGO in Washington, D.C.
