PUBLIC ALLIES NEW YORK LEADERSHIP
Janeen Ettienne, Program Director
Janeen Ettienne is passionate about supporting programs and initiatives that strengthen, empower, and equip individuals to be change agents in their lives and in the world. With over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she believes organizational management and leadership is best when it reflects our diverse communities and responds to political and social shifts by acting in creative ways to generate innovative solutions.
For the past decade, Janeen has supported the mission and vision of Public Allies New York (PANY). Her journey at PANY began as an AmeriCorps Service Member in 2009 with an apprenticeship at the White House Project, the nation’s largest and most diverse training program for women to run for office and win. She coordinated their signature VoteRunLead program which is designed to engage women in the political process as voters, activists, and candidates through training boot camps and networking events. She later served as the chair of the Public Allies Alumni Board (PAAB) with the mission of encouraging engagement through volunteerism, philanthropy, and advocacy. As the current Program Director of PANY, Janeen manages all programmatic aspects of the organization including program compliance, design, evaluation, curriculum development, and new program initiatives.
Driven by her passion for social justice and civic engagement, Janeen earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) with a concentration on organizational management and leadership from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from York College, CUNY.
