Company Description

BLCK VC is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization built for and by Black venture investors dedicated to increasing the representation of Black investors within venture capital now and for generations to come. Through our educational programs, networking opportunities, and national chapters, BLCK VC provides the tools and connections to accelerate the careers of Black investors in venture capital. To do this, we implement programs such as Breaking into Venture, Black Venture Institute, Fund Forward, and host educational and community events, and work with venture firms to diversify their investors and pipelines. BLCK VC is currently active in the following regions/markets: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and Atlanta.

 

Role Description

BLCK VC is seeking a self-driven, passionate, and highly competent full-time Chief of Staff to work closely with the CEO and COO on operational, administrative, financial functions, and strategic planning. This Chief of Staff will be both a strategic and tactical contributor to the team, organizing and prioritizing critical issues and required information for the team to facilitate efficient decision-making. This individual would work closely with the BLCK VC executive team to develop and execute new initiatives, improve existing processes, and engage with BLCK VC Sponsors and Partners.

 

This role would be a great fit for anyone interested in joining a quickly-growing organization meaningfully making venture capital more inclusive. Although this person will work closely with the BLCK VC team, they will also have autonomy to manage functions within the organization and engage actively with the BLCK VC community and our partners.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Provide direct support to the CEO by acting on their behalf to address inquiries and serve as a strategic advisor, providing insights and recommendations on key decisions and long-term planning.
Collaborate with the COO in providing administrative, financial, and operational support for the organization, assisting in monthly financial reporting, human resources, and data management.
Offer ad-hoc Business Operations (BizOps) support, aiding executives in decision-making, project management, and initiative implementation.
Evaluate, design, and implement improvements to the organizational structure, addressing knowledge and skills gaps in collaboration with the COO.
Work closely with the COO to enhance current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for improved team efficiency and productivity, presenting actionable recommendations.
Co-develop and lead special projects and initiatives to enhance organizational efficiency and impact, providing skillful oversight and support.
Provide hands-on support to transform ideas into reality and monitor their progress.
Lead meetings and workshops with meticulous planning and coordination.
Contribute to project management, ensuring timely and successful project completion.
Support strategic planning and alignment efforts within the organization.
Manage and cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including sponsors, partners, industry leaders, and community organizations, and represent the CEO at events and meetings when necessary.
Actively contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives by developing programs, partnerships, or strategies to further promote diversity within the venture capital ecosystem.
Oversee the adoption of new technologies and innovative practices within the organization.
Encourage professional development within the team by identifying training opportunities, mentoring programs, or other resources to help team members grow.
Establish and monitor best-in-class performance metrics for the organization’s initiatives and staff.

 

Professional qualifications:

BA/BS required (MBA or other Master’s Degree would be a plus)
5+ years of related work experience with direct operations or program management responsibilities; familiarity with venture capital, tech, and/or startup ecosystem broadly
Outstanding written and oral communication skills with an ability to articulate and synthesize information in a compelling and organized manner; ability to succeed and thrive in an environment with competing and changing priorities and tight deadlines
Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
Experience in strategic planning, project management, and leadership within a dynamic, growth-focused organization
Highly collaborative and willing to dive into different workflows in the organization
Highly adaptable and comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity
Highly proficient in the use of cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRMs, team collaboration tools (such as Notion & Click-up), and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day-to-day work
