Malicious hate crimes against Asian Americans have been on the rise since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the U.S. On Tuesday in Atlanta, eight lives were tragically taken in another racist attack against the Asian community. We mourn the victims and we stand in solidarity with the many now living in fear and terror.
It is vital that we reckon with the history of anti-Asian hate speech and violence. Now is a time for honesty, accountability and justice. For the Atlanta community, our nation, and world, we call upon those in leadership to model a full commitment to naming and identifying the individual and communal harm caused by racism and demonstrate equal protection under the full extent of the law.
